# LED Tapes Installation
Another type of lighting solution we offer are self-adhesive flexible LED tapes. They are extremely discreet with their compact size, bright, and have a low power consumption. LED tapes are ideal to enhance textures, architectural elements, art work, walls, alcoves, cabinets, work stations, store fronts, stairs, railings, stage décors, etc. Like our luminaires, our different LED tapes can output differently depending on your needs. The LED tapes also have their own DMX Driver, the SRPC2108. The same driver can be used to control all of our different tapes, but the configuration and pin outs will differ depending on the specific LED tape employed. Please refer to the installation guide for more details.
# LED Tape Tracks
Our aluminum tracks come in a variety of shapes and sizes, clear, white or frosted acrylic UV-resistant lenses, and mounting options. This gives you everything required for proper light diffusion and a professional looking installation.
(See the LED Tapes & Tracks section for options.)
# Installation Overview
LED tapes need to be manually wired to a SRPC2108. All LED Tapes come in 16.5 feet roles (or 5 meters) and depending on the tape, it can be cut to different lengths. The LED Tapes can also be joined together if required, by soldering them. But keep in mind that the maximum recommended length of the LED tape is 16.5 feet (or 5 meters).
These instructions are for a specific part of a installation. You will need to reproduce this analysis for each different LED tape setup.
There are multiple factors to take into consideration when installing LED Tape.
- First: The tape and length required
- Second: The power requirements of the total tape
- Third: The power supply's total power output
- Forth: The length of the cable powering the tape
- Fifth: It has to connect to a DMX Driver
# Determining the length of tape required
The first step is to figure out is what your tape will contour or hide behind. You may be doing the edges of a bathroom mirror, illuminating a kitchen counter, or adding accent lighting to a large ceiling cove in a living room. We offer many different tapes; some can produce red, green and blue, while some can only do whites, and others can output all four colors. Different tapes also output different levels of luminosity and some tapes are even graded to be installed outside. All the details for a specific tape can be found on its spec sheet. All the spec sheets can be found in the Products section. If you are unsure about which kind of tape you should use for your project, do not hesitate to contact us.
# Determining the total power requirements
Once you have determined the tape and its total length needed for a specific installation, you will need to determine how much power (Watts) is required to power your tape. Using your tape's spec sheet, you will be able to find out how much power your tape consumes. For example, our most popular tape, the TAPE-60-RGBW uses 4.23 watts per foot. If you wanted to power an entire role of TAPE-60-RGBW, then you would have to do :
16.5 feet x 4.23 watts/feet = 69.80 watts
So to power 16.5 feet of TAPE-60-RGBW you would need to make sure the power supply can produce more than 69.80 watts.
You can also power more than one LED tape with the same power supply. Just add the power requirements of each LED tape to get a total amount of power needed.
# Determining the Power Supply
Once you have determined your power requirements, you may select a power supply. Note that the SRPC2108 has a built-in power supply of 200 watts. We also sell separate power supplies, ranging from 40 watts to 320 watts, which can be used with the SR2108. We recommend only utilizing 80% of the power supplies total power output. This is to compensate for the power requirement peak at start up.
So let's say we wanted to power as much TAPE-60-RGBW that a SRPC2108 can handle, then the calculation would look like this :
200 watts x 80% = 160 watts
160 watts ÷ (1 foot ÷ 4.23 watts) = 37.8 feet
Therefore a SRPC2108 can power 37.8 feet of TAPE-60-RGBW. But only if the TAPE-60-RGBW was connected directly to the SRPC2108 and there wasn't a cable running between them.
Also note that you do not need to utilise the entire power available.
Multiple SRPC2108 may be connected to a single power supply, which will allow you to address each SRPC2108 differently. But multiple power supplies can not be used power a single SRPC2108.
